Mobile extensions to RSVP

RSVP as a receiver oriented resource reservation setup protocol targeted fo r Integrated Services Packe t Networks ( ISPNs) . RSVP has a number of desireable attributes which make it a leading candidate for Interne t standardization. These attrabutes include jlexzbili ty, robustness, and scalability. However, RSVP does no t adequately address the issue of resource reservation for mobile hosts. Thzs paper haghlaghts the l imitat ions of RSVP in mobale environments and proposes extensions t o obviate these deficaencaes. T h e basic characterzstacs of the proposed augmentations include escent resource reservataons, (2) virtual rece intelligent pre-allocation of resources based o n analysts of user mobility patterns, and (4) predictave lookahead dynamic dormant multicast trees.
